Starting on Opening Day 2018, we will install penalties for cutting players. *Any player who has 1 year left on his contract can be cut at anytime without penalty. *Any player who has 2, 3, or 4 years left on their contract can be cut but a penalty will occur. There will be a one time penalty that will effect next year's salary cap. The penalty is a one time/one year fee that is 50% of the players current salary. - For Example...a player with a salary of 36 dollars with 3 years remaining...the penalty on the next year's salary cap is 18 dollars. - For Example...a player with a salary of 100 dollars with 2 years remaining...the penalty on next year's salary cap is 50 dollars.
The rule goes in place in 2018 to allow team to set their players contracts in 2016, 2017 and 2018 knowing the possible penalties on their players if they are cut.
Also the 50% takes the place of doing %'s over each year of the contract remaining. This is an effort to keep the book keeping as simple as possible.

I liked free drop players. Or could it be certain number of free drops. You cant take over a team and get right without being able to drop.

This doesn't take effect until opening day 2018...you will have all but full control of your team. 2016, 2017 and 2018 auction drafts.

100% agree with this. Otherwise there is no reason not to sign every player to a maximum contract and just cut them for free every offseason of it doesn't work out.
